Sounds of the Old City Music Festival

For the first time, the alleyways and corners of the Old City in Jerusalem will be filled with the sound of music in the Sounds of the Old City Music Festival, which will take place in all the four quarters of the city, 20-22 March 2012. The new festival, which will open a full spring and summer season of cultural and tourist night activities in the Old City, will offer tourists and visitors the opportunity to enjoy music of different types over three days, from 18:00 to 23:00. The live music and art videos will complement the particular and unique ambiance of each quarter in the Old City. The Israel Opera and the Meitar Ensemble will perform at Muristan Square in the Christian Quarter; the sounds of ethnic jazz fusion will resound through the Cardo in the Jewish Quarter, as well as hassidic and even Spanish-inspired music in the squares; Armenian music played on ethnic instruments can be heard in the Armenian quarter and four musicians will be suspended above the city walls at Jaffa Gate, playing a variety of different music types. A drum circle will create the beat in the Mamilla Boulevard, and a traveling band of drums and wind instruments will also enliven the atmosphere. Free admission. The festival is an initiative of the Jerusalem Development Authority and produced by the Ariel Company.
